Using Quickbooks - Where do I place a sales payout?
Tool business - also take in recycled materials (aluminum (not cans), motors, brass, copper, etc.) Customer brings in recyclables, and we do a "PayOut" directly out of the cash register. I want to put it in the General Journal, but not sure what
Debit - Sales (Income)
Credit - Expense or Asset or what?
The owner takes the recyclables to a major recycling company and then resells it them.
That has now become Income but where does it go?
When you pay for the recycles, you are paying for the cost of the goods, which you will later sell at the recycling company. So, the entry would be a debit to a cost of goods sold account, and a credit to the cash (banking) account used to track the cash register balance. Use “Write Checks” to record this entry.
When you sell the recycles, this is revenue. The entry would be a debit to a banking account and a credit to an income account. Use the “Sales Receipts” screen to record this entry.
