Black Mould is appearing on my brand new Oak front door?
When I installed my new front door I rubbed it down and gave it two coats of outdoor furniture oil but since it has rained small black dot mould has appeared everywhere .What should I do to stop this?
You're going to need several coats of varnish to stop this occurring.
Oak is a semi-porous material that absorbs water and other liquids which, when left unattended, can cause black mold to develop.
First, treat the door:
Spray your oak door where black mold is present with plain water in a spray bottle. Wetting down the black mold keeps the mold spores from becoming airborne during the cleaning and removal process.
Measure 1/2 cup of general all-purpose disinfectant cleaning solution and pour it into a 1-gallon bucket filled with hot water. Soak a clean cloth in the solution and use it to scrub the black mold areas. Dunk the cleaning cloth in the solution frequently and change the disinfectant cleaning solution when it looks dirty.
Combine 2 cups of hydrogen peroxide and enough warm water to fill your bucket. Wash down black mold areas solution. Peroxide kills black mold spores that are in the grain of the wood, preventing them from growing and returning.
Dry your oak door with a clean cloth.
Once its dry, rub down lightly and apply several more coats of your oil to seal the door completely.
